On a cloudy but warm morning , seven of us headed south from St. George’s church at West Grinstead , crossed the river Adur and headed along farm tracks, field edges and through woodland to reach Lock farm at the halfway point.

Sadly the bluebells had finished their flowering , but a few deer were spotted and there were lovely views of Chanctonbury Ring and the south down.

We then walked to Clothalls Farm, with its fine farmhouse, re-crossed the Adur and returned to the church car park.

The adjacent garden has fine wooden statues of horses, one of which is pictured.

Six of us then had an excellent lunch at the Windmill Inn at Littleworth.

Pictured is a new gate to a building plot in the village, spotted on the way back to the car park after lunch.
