Six of us started out on a fine and warm morning from the Red Lion and Cellar Room at Betchworth.

We walked to the windmill at Buckland and were fortunate enough to have an unscheduled guided tour by the current owner.

It is the only surviving wind-powered sawmill in the UK and was fully restored by the current owners from 1995 to 2004 and we were given a demonstration of it in operation.

There are occasional open days and further information is available on the website www.bucklandsurrey.org.uk

We then walked to Wonham Mill , a delightful spot and discovered that the large fish in the pond were partial to pieces of banana loaf provided by James!

We then visited Betchworth church which dates from at least Norman times and was used in the filming of Four Weddings and a Funeral, returning to the pub for an excellent lunch.

The pub is well worth a visit if you are ever in the locality , not just for the food , but for the overall ambience .
